Handoff Analysis in 5G Small Cell Network

Macro and Small cell base stations (BSs) are beneficial in terms of increasing the user capacity and high data rate in wireless cellular networks. Small cells are useful farther for low cost, low transmission power, higher transmission capacity, and establishing a proper connection with the mobile user inside vehicles. This paper discusses a deterministic geometry-based system model of two-tier cellular networks. Based on the distance between a vehicle and small-cell base stations, the signal-to-interference-noise ratio (SINR), coverage probability and handoff rate have been derived for 5G small-cell networks. The handoff algorithm considers SINR, distance and radius of the cell to achieve a low handoff rate. In this paper, results show similar performance as obtained in PPP based complex arrangement of small cell base stations. Our approach provides a low complexity solution to the Handoff problem in 5G small-cells.
