As an important part of the world cultural heritage, ancient buildings are important carrier of human civilization and non-renewable resource, which is also the historical data for studying the social economy, culture and art, and religious beliefs in the era of ancient buildings. However, with the rapid development of society, especially the development of urban construction, environmental pollution, and tourism, the health status of ancient buildings is not optimistic. At present, the rapid development of science and technology, information technology has been widely applied to all aspects of the field of cultural heritage, such as the protection of cultural relics, ancient buildings’ protection and repair, etc. This paper presents a review of the application of sensing technology in the field of the ancient buildings’ protection, especially in fiber optic sensing technology and wireless sensor network.
