An Efficient SENT Signal Parsing Method

SENT is a unidirectional communications scheme that encodes sensor data into a series of pulse signals. The signal transmitted by this protocol has the characteristics of high signal frequency, fast transmission speed, one-way continuous data transmission, and so on. Because the details of signal encoding vary greatly from application to application, it is difficult to monitor and parse signals in frames for different sensors at the same time. Based on FPGA, this paper designs an efficient parsing method for processing the SENT signal, which has three core designs: signal detection, signal analysis and error diagnosis. Through the novel design of the three modules, this method has the advantages of few logic resource occupancy, high detection efficiency, insensitivity to sensor types, and can provide frame error information. Compared with the CSENT IP core provided by Xilinx, it can adapt to low-end FPGA chips and provide stable and reliable work. Experiments show that this method can simultaneously complete real-time acquisition and frame-by-frame analysis of 12 channel SENT signals on the spartan-6 series XC6SLX9 chip produced by Xilinx, and the accuracy and performance fully meet the requirements of the SAE J2716 standard.
