Inductive dynamic wireless power transfer (DWPT) refers to the technology that allows electric vehicles to recharge while in motion. Practical roadway DWPT systems need to charge different vehicle classes having a wide range of power requirements. This leads to possible over-design of the primary and secondary pads. The use of multi-pad receivers can help in scaling the receiver side system based on the power requirement. This paper presents the design of a 30 kW multi-pad wireless power receiver system and experimental results showing dynamic wireless charging on a light-duty electric vehicle using three WPT3 J2954 secondary pads which are rated for 11.1 kVA each.
