This paper presents the detailed description of the hardware design and the voltage- and current signal processing method used to implement an AC power factor meter on a PIC18F45x microcontroller development board. The power factor is the ratio between the active- and the apparent power drawn by a load connected to an AC power supply. Some experimental test-results are also presented for resistive and reactive loads powered from the standard 220V AC mains.
