Enhancements to the Runway Capacity Simulation Model Using the ASDE-X Data for Estimating Airports Throughput Under Various Wake Separation Systems
The objection of this study is to improve a runway capacity simulation model for estimating the capacity of airports under various conditions. Another contribution of this study is to develop a simulation model which is able to analyze different airports with individual aircraft types. Many air traffic regulations were added to the simulation model to give more realistic results to the potential users of the model. Analysis of different separation systems between aircraft pairs shows that the capacity of airports can improve by using more efficient separation systems, especially under tough weather conditions. One of the outputs of the study is an upgraded user interface which can be used by airport authorities for estimating their facilities' available capacity under different scenarios. For improving the accuracy of simulation parameters, we used Airport Surface Detection Equipment-Model X (ASDE-X) surveillance data to extract real values and to use them for improving the results of the simulation. In this study, we also covered the usage of both constant and dynamic buffer times for adding to the minimum separations between airplanes to compare the capacity results.
