Evidence suggests contaminants promote long term degradation 4. A stack compatible recovery method is needed for contaminants leading to irrecoverable losses 5. Preventive measures are therefore preferable such as passive or active filtering 6. Tolerance limits need to be established for commercially relevant catalyst loadings and many contaminants with unknown effects 7. Unforeseen contamination issues are expected during future fuel cell deployments in the field.
