Sound projecting audio systems realize the reproduction of sound from different directions via reflections paths using highly focusing sound sources. However, the limited focusing capabilities of real sources, e.g., loudspeaker arrays, cause the perception of the listener in practice to be influenced by direct sound in addition to the projected sound. This study dealt with the separation of auditory events, caused by increasing perceptual dominance of the leading direct sound in sound projection. For that, the perception of auditory events for different directions of direct and projected sound and increasing direct sound level was evaluated. The separation varied with the different directions of direct and projected sound. The effect of sound projection, however, was not influenced.
