A limited evaluation of an Observer Based Loop Transer Recovery (OBLTR) controller was performed on the Calspan Learjet Variable Stability Simulator (VSS) at the United States Air Force Test Pilot School (USAF TPS). A focus on the handling qualities of the OBLTR controller and its ability to restore nominal handling qualities when presented with off nominal dynamics cases is discussed. This report is the first reporting of a piloted evaluation of the OBLTR controller. While the findings are limited in nature, it does provide significant evidence that the controller was capable of restoring desired vehicle dynamics to a pilot even in the event of large parametric uncertainties.
