Quartic Optimization for MIMO Radar Transmit Beampattern Synthesis

This paper considers the design of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar waveforms to approximate a desired beampattern. The problem is formulated as minimizing the weighted squared-error between the synthesized beampattern and the desired beampattern, and the spacial cross-correlation sidelobes with the energy and peak-to-average ratio (PAR) restrictions on the waveforms, which thus leads to a non-convex quartic optimization problem. An iterative sequence quartic optimization (ISQO) algorithm with adaptively changing weights to match the template is proposed. The numerical results are provided to demonstrate the superiority of the proposed algorithm in comparison with the state-of-the-art method.
