High-speed train is developing very fast. As an important part of the train, motor failures can cause many problems. In order to solve the problems, it is important to get the precise motor condition in time. Over the past several decades, many researches on motor faults diagnosis, have been presented. However, these methods can not get the initial condition accurately. This paper presents a method for the rotor condition monitoring in an induction motor. After introducing the rotor voltage model, the rotor voltage space vector is analyzed. It is shown that rotor voltage space vector can be a feature of broken-bar fault. An observer is designed, and a condition monitoring index is presented. The details of this method are described. The method has been verified by simulation system of CRH2.
