摘要

In this paper, a simple bidirectional Time Wavelength Division Multiplexed-Passive Optical Network (TWDM-PON) system is designed, simulated and optimized. A remarkable system capacity of 80 Gbps is achieved. Eight optical channels, each with eight time slots and 10 Gbps/channel synchronous bit rate for upstream and downstream transmission simultaneously, are realized. A power optimization process is carried out to enhance the system bit error rate (BER). A launched optical power/channel of 5 to 10 dBm can maintain a maximum BER of 10-13 over a transmission distance between 20 and 50 km. This architecture is suitable for a fiber to the home (FTTH) cost efficient scheme. A detailed comparison with the related literature is provided showing the importance and the merits of this study.
