Modeling Earth as a Dipole Antenna

摘要

The Earth has been represented as a simple dipole antenna to better understand how the electromagnetic field(s) envelopes the Earth and radiates into space. There are three electromagnetic patterns that emerge in my model, which correspond to the far radiative field, the near inductive field and a newly defined magnetoquasistatic field. Using well known radio equations it is possible to calculate the electric and magnetic fields at any point P in the respective fields. Knowledge of the magnetoquasistatic field may also lead to wireless energy transfer from the Earth’s magnetic field to a manmade antenna matched to the Earth’s impedance.
