This paper investigates a novel approach of calculating the spatial field distribution in the yoke and the transition of yoke and teeth. First, an analytical field calculation approach based on the Laplace equation is presented and compared to a FEM calculation. To increase the agreement of FEA and analytical method, a Schwarz-Christoffel mapping is introduced. By the use of a conformal mapping in combination with analytical field calculation, the transition area of tooth and yoke can be modelled. At last, the results are compared to a 2D FEA.
