This paper presents results that were obtained when utilizing an evacuated tube heat pipe solar collector and associated equipment while performing as a solar water desalination system. Data were obtained indoors using a solar simulator during experiments conducted in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT). The system was tested under vacuum conditions (70 kPa below atmospheric pressure). With modifications of the vapour outlet pipe of the geyser and extra insulation material wrapped around it, notable amount of potable water was harvested.
