摘要

Despite the challenges faced at LAX, LAWA demonstrated steady greenhouse gas emission reductions at LAX in 2018 and expects to do so again in 2019. These reductions are primarily achieved through the carbon management policies' implementation and follow-through. The LAX Biofuels Initiative, GSE Emissions Reduction Policy, and Alternative Fuels Vehicle Program engage stakeholders at the airport to replace old or unclean equipment and reduce emissions through incentives and leasing requirements. While it can be difficult to gain accreditation through ACA, maintaining accreditation through demonstrating steady greenhouse gas emission reductions is the program's real challenge. Not every carbon management practice results in a regular year-over-year reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. However, LAWA demonstrates that the occasional inconsistent year for a program or calculation protocol quirk can be overcome through implementing a variety of diverse and ambitious programs, and actively engaging airport stakeholders in the emission reduction process.
