This paper describes an approach to teaching advanced structural analysis that utilizes cloud computing to help students learn computer programming skills, aspects of structural analysis software, and advanced techniques of building analysis. To accomplish this objective, students developed a general-purpose structural analysis program from scratch using the open-source Julia programing language. By the end of the semester, students had developed a structural analysis program capable of analyzing a variety of structures under both linear or nonlinear load conditions.
