Enhancement of Available Transfer Capability using FACTS Devices

In recent times, the electricity market is getting structured from monopoly market to a deregulated market. in this process utilities allow many independent power producers to be connected across the system. Power producers and load centers have to share a common transfer link for accommodating electric power transactions from the point of generation centre to load centers. Increased demand of electric power causes transmission line to violate their limits. ATC of a transmission system is degree of additional power that can be delivered through the transmission link without violation of any limits. The calculation of ATC is most important for system security, to operate the system more reliably and also to avoid blackouts. This paper gives idea on enhancing the ATC using FACTS devices
