For real world avionics applications, an approach for a deterministic network that supports real-time data transmission with guaranteed service is Avionics Full Duplex (AFDX) Switched Ethernet technology. Design of AFDX is according to the switched network principle with physically redundant links. This supports the availability and also it exhibits tolerance to any network transmission and link failures. This paper illustrates the AFDX network design and implementation of an end system for AFDX network. The end system is a FPGA based solution that convert s data to AFDX protocol frames and sends it to the AFDX interconnect for routing. This enables various avionic subsystems to communicate with each other using the AFDX protocol.
