Optimal Placement of DG and Capacitor in Radial Distribution Systems Considering Load Variation

This paper provides an effective analytical approach for identifying the optimum places and sizes of the distributed generation (DG) and shunt capacitor (SC) in radial distribution system (RDS) in order to minimize the power losses and improve the voltages for all busses. First, using power loss sensitivity factor (PLSF) is suggested to use the most candidate buses to install DGs, SCs and DGs with SCs. The proposed analytical approach is then used to calculate the sizes of the sources from the chosen buses. The buses give minimum power losses are the best locations for the sources compared with others. The numerical simulations are carried out using IEEE 33-bus and 69-bus RDS to verify the performance of the proposed method, while the loads are changed from 50% to 150%. The obtained results are compared with other techniques to verify the effectiveness of the proposed analytical approach.
