A Wideband Polarization Reconfigurable Antenna Based on Optical Switches and C-Shaped Radiator

An enhancing bandwidth of polarization reconfigurable antenna based on optical switches and C-shaped radiator is proposed. The antenna can achieve three polarization modes, linear polarization (LP), left-hand circular polarization (LHCP) and right-hand circular polarization (RHCP). The proposed antenna consists of a simple C-shaped patch, a modified ground plane, feeding unit and two parasitic stubs. Four slots are properly embedded in C-shaped patch to adjust the AR for CP modes. And two silicon optical switches are inserted into each brand of feeding unit. The results show that, the proposed antenna has a 10-dB impedance bandwidth of 81.3% (1.9-4.5GHz) in LP mode, and 98.9% (1.25-3.7GHz) for CP mode. And the 3-dB axial-ratio (AR) bandwidth is 53.7% (2.25-3.9GHz) for LHCP and 63.1% (1.9-3.65GHz) for RHCP. In addition, in the range of operating bandwidth from 2.2 to 3.6 GHz, the proposed antenna can satisfy the 2.45GHz WiFi, LTE 4G, WiMax and 5G(the 5th generation mobile communication technology) applications.
