History of Logarithmic Devices in Russia in the Items of the Polytechnic Museum Collection

The collection "Logarithmic tables and calculating analog devices" is used to study the history of computing technology. This collection is a part of the computer equipment stock of the Polytechnic Museum. This collection contains logarithmic tables and analog logarithmic calculating devices from the first - imperfect, with small computing capabilities, to the more recent - ultra-accurate logarithmic tables, numerous specialized nomograms and slide rulers with advanced scales. The collection demonstrates the main trends of their development, the variety of applications of these devices, their importance in computational practice in various periods of time from the beginning of the 17th century to the end of the 20th. In the collection of "Logarithmic tables and calculating analog devices" of the Polytechnic Museum there are both conventional and precision devices. There are straight logarithmic rules, round rules, round spiral rules, cylinders with a spiral scale, split cylinders, split rules.
