The solutions to the inverse scattering problems in electromagnetics and acoustics are modified to incorporate prior knowledge of the property dependencies of expected material constitutive parameters; dependencies are built directly into the discontinuous Galerkin method Gauss-Newton inversion algorithm (DGM-GNI). As the expected target materials are known, a relationship between properties (real and imaginary permittivity in electromagnetics, and compressibility, density and attenuation in acoustics) is assumed. This dependence is used to recast the multi-property inversion problems as a single property inversion in each imaging modality, reducing the degrees of freedom and suppressing spurious solutions.
