Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) are increasingly being used in the investigation, design and monitoring of engineering projects. Traditionally UAS surveys have been used to collect high resolution video footage, but as technology advances and equipment payloads reduce, the range of application of UAS for survey purposes is increasing. This paper looks into the broadening applications of UAS surveys and presents a series of case studies where UAS have been used to generate digital elevation models, investigate seepage and detect buried metal objects.
