Application Prioritized TEEN Protocol for Wireless Sensor Networks

This paper proposes a novel method of adding multiple applications and prioritizing them in the existing TEEN protocol for wireless sensor networks. This modified TEEN protocol is henceforth called as Application Prioritized Threshold sensitive Energy Efficient (ApriTEEN) protocol. Performance analysis of the core concept of the proposed approach is compared with the existing TEEN protocol for both homogeneous and heterogeneous energy environments. In the homogeneous environment, the APriTEEN outperforms the TEEN protocol in terms of network stability (11 %) and network lifetime (9%). In a heterogeneous environment, ApriTEEN proves to be better in terms of network stability (9%) and network lifetime (12.4%). The throughput of proposed ApriTEEN and TEEN is comparable in both heterogeneous and homogeneous environments.
