Although single hop adhoc networks with IEEE 802.11 technology is a good platform in unregulated spectrum, there is a limitation in transmission power given by regulatory bodies. The transmission range decreases with increase in data rates. but maintaining the same transmission power with increase in transmission rate produce a reduction in coverage area, which is not feasible to spread in a hotspot with large number of uniformly and closely spread access points rather it is better to use a low number of multirate access point and deploy multihop wireless network to provide access to one access point. Since multirate devices give better flexibility to meet the demands of consumers so such devices must have the protocols that select the appropriate rate for a given situation. In this paper, the multirate implementation is carried out over multi metric OLSR routing protocol under different propagation models. It is analyzed in terms of speed and coverage range over various parameters like packet delivery rate, throughput, End-to-end delay and energy consumption when the density of subscribers in a given area is increased gradually.
