This paper presents a dynamic model review platform developed by ERCOT to evaluate the dynamic performance of the dynamic model associated with various generation types. The platform, based on a single machine - infinity generator test system, can be used to examine the voltage and frequency responses for dynamic model review and generator's capability testing to meet grid code requirements, such as automatic voltage regulation, high/low voltage ride through, or responses compare to recorded measurement. In addition, it can assess the model's response under various short circuit ratio (SCR) after a large disturbance and a small disturbance, respectively. Currently, this tool is used as a screening tool in ERCOT to provide a better understanding of the dynamic performance associated with generation resources, especially for the so-called black-box proprietary dynamic models.
