-Large-scale curtailment of photovoltaic (PV) power is inevitable in future Japanese power systems where the installed capacity of PV generation has been increasing rapidly. On the other hand, advancement of the Electricity System Reform in Japan is intended to reinforce the interconnected lines (tie lines) for more frequent power interchange among multiple power systems. These lines can also be useful for alleviating the PV energy curtailment. Thus, this study focuses on the PV curtailment in interconnected bulk power systems. We propose a cross-regional economic-load dispatching control (EDC) method for considering PV curtailment with transmission network constraints using optimal power flow (OPF). The effectiveness of the proposed method is evaluated by conducting numerical simulations on the power system model of two actual interconnected areas of Japan.
