Soft tissue cutting is a common operation in the Virtual Surgery Simulation System (VSSS). This paper addresses the problem of high computational cost in soft tissue cutting simulation. Compared with constructing tetrahedral mesh in the Finite Element Method (FEM), using a cloud of nodes is more flexible. The presented algorithm is based on the Meshless Total Lagrangian Explicit Dynamics method (MTLED), which divides the influence range of the cutting path before solving the shape function. The visibility criterion is utilized to avoid the discontinuity induced by cutting. The experimental results show that the proposed cutting algorithm is able to improve the computational efficiency of soft tissue cutting simulation.
