Well, there you have it, some of what has gone on to create the first ever, non-NASA Deep Space Network Station, DSS-17! While specific to the work of the DSN at 7 & 8 GHz, all of these techniques can be adapted to ham work, as needed, particularly the cleaning with acid and transition concepts. The high pass filter stuff? Well, not too many guys need to transmit while they receive, so mechanical T-R relays provide more than adequate isolation. BUT I have seen times, such as when working with Al Ward W5LUA on 77 GHz experiments, where higher frequency guide was useful for high pass filtering to define a pass band and tame an LNA, and this paper hopefully will encourage you to make your own!
