Car electronics is a field in constant evolution whether it be in the design of sophisticated drive train controllers, the energy management of hybrids or even the level of the DC voltage on which the energy is distributed in the on-board network. In the near future conventional ICE powered automobiles (Internal Combustion Engine) will be underpinned with a much stronger electrical network, 42V PowerNetT compliant. It is not advisable, however, to reengineer low voltage electronics, incandescent lamps and the like to 42V, the new voltage level of choice. So the upcoming 42/14V PowerNet requires DC to DC conversion. A simple paralleled boost converter with interleaved switching attained some interesting results /2/. It is on this on which that paper will rely during the process of further developing this DC/DC converter principle. Some of its previously reported teething problems can be cleared away by virtue of enhancing the architecture with coupled reactances which unite the advantages of both, forward and flyback converter principles. This approach marks another important step forward towards a true resistor-emulating DC to DC converter.
