Design and development of pressure measuring system for venous leg ulcer treatment

An unique method of treating to the chronic venous leg ulcers is by applying correct pressure through the bandages. But the incorrect application of pressure bandages results in failure to heal the ulcer which can result to the amputation of the lower leg. In India, 70% of patients were suffering with chronic venous ulcer at the district health center or general private hospital. It has been observed that nurses or male attendants working in their hospitals may not have sufficient knowledge of training in applying pressure bandages. This paper design & develop a handheld pressure measuring instrument generated by medical compression bandages (MCB) efficient for training methods for applying bandages by nurses, and investigate the factors that influence pressure under such bandages, both theoretically and experimentally. This should enable correct treatment of leg ulcers, reducing treatment costs and improving healing rates.
