A new timing synchronization algorithm based on Constant Amplitude Zero Auto-Correlation (CAZAC) sequence for Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) systems is proposed in this paper. The training symbol of the presented method consists of four different parts and is constructed by the use of CAZAC sequence, utilizing delay correlation and symmetrical correlation properties to accomplish accurate and stable timing synchronization. Moreover, a new timing metric with low computational complexity is given to improve timing efficiency. To evaluate the performance of the presented algorithm, simulations are performed by the mean timing offset (MTO), the mean-square error (MSE) and the calculation time. The evaluation results indicate that our proposed method has better timing estimation performance and sharply reduce the computational complexity.
