Utilizing the matrix-filler interface regions to tune the electrical performance of nanodielectrics has been extensively investigated by adding various inorganic (ceramic) nanoparticles into polymers. The organic-inorganic interphase compatibility problems and the lack of functional diversity of ceramic fillers have limited the performance of nanodielectrics. In this research, high porosity mesoporous silica (MS) nanoparticles were used as carriers to introduce organic functional molecules (PEl, PEG, and PEG-COOH) into polymer matrix. The ultra-high specific surface area of MS together with the nucleophilic PEl bring more than 10% enhancement of electrical breakdown strength and improved Ohmic-SCLC transition field to PP.
