Here, we propose a low cost, energy efficient embedded solution for the management of solid wastage. The core of this solution is a portable device consisting of an ultrasonic sensor, a processor (NodeMCU) with integrated transmitter for communicating to cloud server (firebase) and a power source (battery). The device comes with most of the information (e.g. unique identity) preprogrammed into its processor meaning the end user will need little to no manual interventions. To increase battery life, intelligent wake-up system has been implemented into the device that significantly reduces the power consumption of the system. The proposed solution will be beneficial to authority responsible for cleaning as they can now track the place where they should go and clean first. Municipalities can also get the statistical information about the amount of garbage produced in the city.
