Using the knowledge of digital image processing and the knowledge of optical imaging, the problem of difficult to obtain detailed images of high-gloss surfaces is solved. A stainless steel surface defect detection method based on image processing technology is proposed. The defect image is filtered by the mean value and the gray level is changed. An automatic threshold segmentation method is proposed. Finally, the defect type is discriminated by feature extraction. Experiments show that the method is simple, rapid, and accurate. It can effectively identify flaws and scratches on the surface of stainless steel spoons.
