Hydropower generation is the main renewable generation system as well as PV generation in china. The paper comprehensively considers the operational characteristics of the two renewable energy generations, and adds the PV power generation into the cascade small hydropower generation system to improve the energy complementarity in the power system. A mathematical model based on the coordination of the two generations is established in this paper, the objective of the model is to minimize the fluctuation of the residual load. The impact of the PV generation and cascade hydropower generation peaking capacity and short-term water regulation are discussed. Particle swarm optimization algorithm is used to solve the coordination of the two generations and improve the searching efficiency. Simulation study results reveal that the coordination operation of cascade hydropower and PV generation can further increase the load smooth capacity. It also improves the intermittence and fluctuation of PV system and improves economic efficiency and ensuring the safe and stable operation of the system.
