14.5GHz Circular Waveguide Applicator for the Treatment of Skin Cancer

This paper presents a new circular waveguide applicator for the treatment of skin cancer and other dermatological applications at 14.5GHz. The limited depth of penetration and control of the Theoretical considerations, simulations using CST Microwave Studio along with bench testing is presented. Measurements show the prototype applicator having a return loss of -10.96dB into skin and bench in-vitro testing is in good agreement. Ongoing work involves the shaping of this treatment zone using multiple dielectric materials to load the applicator.
