Development of a Setup for Long-Term Investigations of Dielectric Ageing under Liquid Nitrogen

This paper deals with the development and setup of a test bench for long-term high voltage investigations of solid insulation materials in liquid nitrogen. First, basic design recommendations for cryogenic setups are given. Then, the designed setup is presented in its most important details. Experiences of start-up are shared and improvements of electrical and mechanical details are discussed. Further, first investigational results are exemplary shown for syntactic foam as solid high voltage insulation.
