In this paper, the design of a magnetic resonant wireless power transfer system and its associated control circuitry in the application of charging portable electronic devices is studied. As the power transfer efficiency relates to the system parameters, the controller design includes an adjustable power electronic rectifier to enable the automated adjustment of battery/load impedance, as well as a nonlinear sliding-mode controller with chattering compensation to control the operating point in real-time. A modified incremental conductance algorithm is also developed in order to track the maximum power transfer point of the system. Numerical simulation results demonstrate the performance of the control system in maximizing the power transfer efficiency.
