Space Vector Modulation is a popular technique for driving power converters. Alternative switching sequences may optimize power losses, as well as affecting harmonic content. When SVM is used in UPS applications, power losses are of particular interest. In fact, most UPS applications are energy-intensive, requiring maximization of UPS efficiency. This paper reviews alternative switching strategies, evaluating their power losses and side effects, considering the peculiarities of UPS applications. The analysis is supported by experimental measurements on high power double-conversion transformer-based UPS.
