A numerical simulation is performed for a pilot scale turbulent pulverized coal combustion furnace employinga complex burner by means of LES technique. A comprehensive detail coal combustion kinetic mechanismis implemented to describe physics of pulverized coal combustion in detail through extended amelet/progressvariable approach (EFPV) scheme employing a variable to treat interactions of two main reaction parts, thereleased gas combustion and the char combustion. The simulation result is validated by comparing with anexperimental data in terms of temperature and distribution of oxygen mole fraction. To clarify improvement ofthe detail mechanism, the simulation results are compared to another simulation employing a global mechanism.
