The mechanism and kinetics of corrosion process on the surface of thewelded joint area of the 1579 Al alloy were investigated using SIET(scanning ion-selective electrode technique) and SVET (scanningvibrating electrode technique) in 3% NaCl. The development ofcorrosion was realized within the weld interface. Methods ofanticorrosion layer formation based on plasma electrolytic oxidation(PEO) sufficiently upgrade protective properties of the Al alloy.Corrosion of Al alloy with different protective layers for Marineequipment are described in details. Composite coatings are characterizedwith the best anticorrosion properties and increase the stability ofmaterial in the corrosive medium.
