A Subsea Isolation Valve (SSIV) creates a safety barrier in case oneneeds to shut down a part of a flow line/pipeline, which is first installedat the fixed platform in China sea for Liwan 3-1 project. The primaryfunction of this SSIV is to protect the health, safety and environmentfrom an unplanned release of hydrocarbons. This paper presents acomprehensive description of the subsea isolation valve systemtechnology with a directed hydraulic control scheme. The SSIVhardware systems are addressed in depth to elucidate the functionalityand design considerations of subsea ball valve & hydraulic actuator,flying lead(FL), subsea umbilical termination assembly(SUTA),umbilical and topside hydraulic control panel (THCP) integrated for thesubsea control system, foundation, cage and protection structurescontrived for supporting the SSIV and SUTA as a standalone moduleon the seabed, as well as the protection structure supplied, to protect theSSIV and its connections from dropped objects and trawl impact. Inaddition, in order to ensure the safety of the umbilical with SUTAinstalled in the summer of 2013, the multi-body dynamic installationanalysis carried out using the non-linear time domain finite elementanalysis program is also addressed.
