In the development of a space vehicle, a Concept of Operations, or CONOPS, document can be used to communicate how a system operates, with a focus on user functionality and external interfaces. A graphical model-based CONOPS can be developed to convey stakeholder needs and requirements. A CONOPS developed in the System Modeling Language (SysML) can be formulated using interfaces and tasks associated with a given system. Inclusion of a UPDM-based approach would provide for a coherent behavioral model consistent with CONOPS-level Use Cases (UCs) and offers a seamless transition to system-level elements. The process of developing a model based CONOPS can be formulated into a series of steps that results in an architecture consistent with the required user functionality.
