Ageing Subsea Pipelines External Corrosion Management

According to Offshore Data Services there are approximately 17,000 kilometers of offshore pipelines globally installed before 1981 (35 Years Ago) and before 1991 (25 Years Ago) the number is close to 55,000 kilometers. While a good number of these lines have been abandoned, others are still in service and are now at or 10 years or more beyond their original design life. This paper reviews proven strategy for cost effective, reliable handling of life extension on these old pipelines from preliminary assessment, through repair execution and post repair surveillance. Useful tips for avoiding common pitfalls are also presented.
