This research proposes a parameter estimation of synchronous generators from accessible measurements and considering parameter constraints. The model consists of a set of differential-algebraic equations (DAEs) containing an algebraic equation for the balance of currents. However, during the solution of the algebraic equations, singularity problems can arise due to uncertainties in the parameters. To avoid those problems, a minimization approach, based on trajectory sensitivity method, is presented. Furthermore, to limit such uncertainties, constraints on the parameters are also added to the formulation by means of the logarithmic barrier method. The measured data used to parameter estimation are measurements of terminal voltage and current as well as the field current, which are easily available in real systems. The method is successfully verified by means data acquired from a dynamic simulation of a test system.
