This paper proposed a cost-effective arrangement of fairing on TopTension riser (TTR). Based on energy balance and modal superpositionprinciple, the transverse vortex-induced vibration (VIV) response underdifferent soliton current profile was conducted. According to theresulting excitation region, the VIV analysis of several arrangements offairing was carried out. One fairing arrangement was considered as themost cost-effective under different soliton current profiles, with alength of 57% of the whole length of riser. As a result, this arrangementcould reduce the transverse VIV response obviously, of whichmaximum ratios of RMS A/D and stress was 20% of the response ofthe bare TTR.
