The work reported in this paper has attempted to synthesise hierarchical microano-structured mesoporous LiFePO_4 precursor composites by the adoption of two different two-step synthesis methods, i.e. two-step heterogeneous growth and two-step hydrothermal schemes. The structural characterization for FePO_4·2H_2O and corresponding LiFePO_4/C products were carried out using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy, while the electrochemical performance of LiFePO_4/C was characterized by charge-discharge measurement. It has been clearly demonstrated that the as-synthesized LiFePO_4/C products prepared by these two methods possess excellent rate capacities and superior cycling performance, also having a relatively high tap density.
