The demand for electricity around the world is rising day by day. So, the consumption of electric energy should be in sustainable manner. To measure the electric energy consumption, electricity meters place an important role to measure energy consumed so that billing can be done. The accuracy of these meters should be high to measure the correct value. The analog electricity meters does not give high accuracy; because, they uses mechanical elements. So, digitization is required for measuring parameters with greater accuracy. In this paper fabrication and working of a digital energy meter based on MAXQ3183 AFE (analog front end) has been discussed which measures all three phase parameters like voltage, current, real power, power factor etc. through SPI communication using Arduino microcontroller.
